Bolwerk is a sculptural installation deeply connected to the architectural and cultural identity of the city square. Inspired by the sycamore maple’s horizontal canopy—a symbol of shelter and community—the design echoes the charm of French village squares, vibrant hubs of social interaction and leisure. Drawing from the French game jeux de boules (pétanque), the artwork reimagines the game’s elements on a monumental scale. Three polished boules, each 100 cm in diameter, form a striking composition that reflects the game’s dynamics while blending seamlessly with the square’s flow. The mirrored surfaces interact with their surroundings, reflecting the town hall, pedestrians, and changing seasons. This creates a dynamic dialogue between the artwork and its environment, turning Bolwerk into a centerpiece of reflection, connection, and play, inviting the community to engage with the space in new and unexpected ways.
